Owning a vehicle is a privilege, not a right. Every person who holds a Maryland driver’s license must adhere to the requirements set forth by the state. Failure to comply with these requirements is a crime and may result in many penalties. Although the list below is not complete, it includes some of the expectations you have as a Maryland car driver and vehicle owner.
Maryland drivers must carry minimum amounts of auto insurance on their vehicle to comply with state laws. Failure to comply with this law may result in suspension of your driving privileges and vehicle registration, fines, and more expensive auto insurance. Auto insurance keeps drivers safe and ensures that others are also protected while you’re behind the wheel.
Every year, all registered vehicles must complete and pass a Maryland vehicle safety inspection. This inspection ensures that cars are not over-polluting the environment and that they are safe to drive as such. There is a fee associated with the vehicle inspection which is non-refundable if the vehicle doesn’t pass.
Is your vehicle registered? It is important that it is registered. It is your responsibility to register your vehicle with the city. It is a crime to drive any vehicle that is not registered. Keep in mind there is a fee with registration and this process must be completed each year.
This is a freebie on this list. It is your responsibility to drive safely when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Safe driving classes are available. Completing such a course may lower auto insurance costs and prevent my future auto accidents. Safe drivers avoid accidents, tickets, and other mishaps that only cause frustrations in the day.
